Samuel Colt (1814 - 1862) was an American inventor and gun manufacturer. He is considered the developer of the first industrially produced drum revolver. The revolver, or colloquially Colt, belongs to the category of multi-shot handguns. Unlike self-loading pistols, the cartridges in revolvers are not loaded in the magazine but in the drum, which is rotatably mounted behind the barrel and is rotated and brought back into firing position by pulling the trigger or cocking the hammer.
